November is the second anniversary episode of Lingthusiasm!
This time two years ago, we were a top-secret project that no one had listened to yet, and this time last year we’d just started asking for your anniversary recommendations. It went so well the first time that we’re aiming to thank even more people this year!
Now, we’re a full-fledged podcast that people have described as “incredibly well-researched and fun” and “like I’m listening in on a conversation between two of my most interesting friends.” Here’s a list of episodes so far:
We’re really proud to have brought you a second year of indie linguistics podcasting, including transcripts, and even to have commissioned lingthusiasm art and created two liveshows thanks to our patrons! Here are the bonus episodes that our patrons make possible:
To celebrate two years of enthusiastic linguistics podcasting, we’re aiming to spread the linguistics enthusiasm even further, and we need your help to get there! Here are some ways you can help:
All of our listeners so far have come from word of mouth, and we’ve enjoyed hearing from so many of you how we’ve kept you company while folding laundry, walking the dog, driving to work, jogging, doing dishes, procrastinating on your linguistics papers, and so much more. But there are definitely still people out there who would be totally into making their mundane activities feel like a fascinating dinner party about how language works, they just don’t know it’s an option yet. They need your help to find us!
If you leave us a rec or review in public, we’ll thank you by name or pseudonym on our upcoming special anniversary post, which will live in perpetuity on our website. If you recommend us in private, we won’t know about it, but you can still feel a warm glow of satisfaction (and feel free to tell us about it on social media if you still want to be thanked!).
Stay Lingthusiastic!
I watched the whole show and …
So like catra/adora not knowing first ones is dumb. The horde didn’t teach them? Not part of the curriculum? ‘Know thy enemy’ clearly not taught at military school? Horde never thought of investigating and taking tech for themselves? They raised an entire generation of sixteen year olds… And did not have intel???? In that entire time?? The fuck kinda military campaign is that???
Catra almost beat bright moon with two (2) princesses. While adora (who, for a “force captain candidate”) kept getting distracted by catra and needed four (4) princesses and one (1) queen. Catra has literally only picked up the scraps of what failure the princess alliance has had, and she’s already figured to let the smart one do smart stuff and the buff one do buff stuff, unlike adora, who doesn’t even delegate based on ability with her friends.
Then there’s shadow weaver, who doesn’t have the imagination to try other things with the black garnet, and hordak, who spies around and doesn’t do shit. Catra should just off them both, declare the horde for herself, inform everyone the war is over, and do her thing. Like why would catra even be loyal to the current horde? They treated her like crap, and she knew it, and she kept her independence and not once before did I see her really buy into “I love the horde” – she only wanted power so that she could call shots, make herself free. It makes more sense for her to climb high enough to change stuff and disassemble the administration from the inside. And then she’d be free.
And adora can like, idk, sit around since she hasn’t had a strategy better than collect em all and “hit stuff”. TBH I think catra is the one beating adora to the “let go” light hope game cuz catra only had bonds with adora. No adora, no bonds = can focus on other things, like power and making herself free. Unlike adora, who IS bound too tightly to her need to save everyone. Not that I think light Hope’s “let go” is a good instruction – but it is serving catra well.
at first i was like “this is funny bc it’s true” but it got me thinking actually
It’s hard to say exactly how much Catra buys into the Horde’s mission. She acts like she does–like in the last episode she says “it won’t be over until Bright Moon is destroyed and the Rebellion falls. It won’t be over until darkness covers Etheria forever.”
She has a lethal combination of motives here. She’s loyal to Hordak (right now at least) because he’s the first person to see her potential, and he’s indulging her desire to be respected. She’s of course driven by her ambition and need for control. She’s brainwashed, even though she’s very smart and doesn’t want to believe it. And, finally, she wants to see Adora fail.
I think she does actually endorse the war and the Horde’s mission right now, not because she really believes in it, but because it’s what best suits her. It’s the best way to get everything she wants (and due to the way she was raised, she doesn’t have much remorse about hurting people along the way). But that could very easily change in the future–in fact I expect that it will change.
I could see her holding a coup if Hordak turns on her, or if he stops being useful to her. But idk if that will happen anytime soon because Hordak’s using her just as much as she’s using him ykwim
Also I think Adora will start to grow into her leadership role more as the show progresses :) This show is soo interesting because it’s following the stories of kids who are inheriting the older generation’s war, and exploring how they deal with it. anyway I’m just rambling this whole thing was like a stream of consciousness lol but yeah interesting post op
i was just made privvy to the fact there are actual people on tumblr who call themselves the royal fandom… and they literally ‘‘stan’‘ the royal family….
yall…. aint a fandom….. you’re just monarchists…. Cavaliers, if you’re feeling nostalgic……. imma scream
i mean you could make the argument that christianity is the formal name for the jesus fandom, so why can’t monarchists and cavaliers be the royal fandom
but im not making either of those claims because they’re both weird
naruto really was more than anything else.. an incredible work of war criminal and homophobe representation like.. kishimoto really said war criminal rights now!
us, tiny brained: gay rep in naruto would be cool maybe
kishimoto, humongous brained: rights for war criminals and homophobes ONLY that’s my ninja way
